At 5 month old I had under gone an operation for an aortic aneurysm with only a week to survive after the operation. Of course I survived however I was the first baby the operation was performed on and the surgeon who performed the operation has been struck of the register now - thankfully he cured me first.

At 11 months old I caught German Measles which put my health in jeopardy again.

My condition caught the media attention however I cannot remember!

A huge party was thrown for my 1st birthday - even though a few of the guests didn't look too pleased at my recovery!

I had an ambition to ride from an early age. Enjoying the donkey rides at Blackpool.

At three years old my sister, Carolyn, was born to my frustration as she was not always too keen to leave me alone with my "Equestrian Developments!"

Like normal children we attended Sunday School. Mum was a teacher! We went on the Whit Walk and to the galas. The only time I was beaten in the fancy dress was when Carolyn had this very different outfit!

The first horse I ever sat on, Jamie, he was 27 there. He was owned by my Dad's cousin - is she to blame!?

With many appointments as a bridesmaid at various family weddings I gave in to the "dress" theme and begun dancing.

I won various competitions at Ballet - laughing I know! Competed at Bradford Library Theatre for three years consecutively and even took a gold medal for one of my routines - hard to believe isn't it!
Dancing came to an end sadly because I was rubbish as I got older and useless at singing and the horses took over. The warmth of the dancing school soon disappeared and cold winter evenings and frosty mornings soon became a reality and it was horses all the way.

My first competitive experience was with the riding school pony - Tom Thumb. I had a go at the nursery stakes and fell off - with a leader!!!

Grandad bought the first pony. Welsh Mountain pony, Lassie. All the activities were taken up and events with the pony club became a real feature.

Lassie was trailed around the shows like every normal pony, entered in every class at the show and rosettes in handful returning home to place in the bedroom.

Once outgrown Cassie was there to move me up the pony ladder. Cassie was a chestnut mare like Lassie but with a little more about her - or she seemed to be then. Like the ladies of the orange variety Cassie left me with lots to work on.

Lots of ponies followed. All gave me lots to work with. It was then I realised there were lots to learn.

Romany was my first proper pony. A really difficult show hunter pony. She was owned by Langshot Stud in Surrey. She went to Ponies UK and NCPA final with me and then was returned to her owner as I had got too old for the class.

Jack - bought Jack as I had plans to do working hunter classes. Jack was sadly lost at 6 years old. He was a joy to own.

Ian - he was a super chap, I got him as a foal and he competed at the WY.WP&C.A foal show and then at Todmorden as a yearling. He was shown once at three winning his class at Halifax show.

He was shown by Robert Allen of Trenwith Stud.

Ian died at the age of 4 due to an injury in the field. Such a waste of a lovely pony who had an exciting future.

SAM - I have owned him since a foal. He has been shown succesfully prior to his Dressage Career.
